A Dunbar Township polling place was temporarily without power Tuesday after a vehicle crashed into a utility pole, knocking out electricity to the site.

Mark Nitowski, a spokesman for Allegheny Power, said Divito Park on Frankie Lane in Leisenring lost partial power around 3 p.m. as a result of the crash.

Voters living in the township's third precinct vote at the park.

Nitowski said that because the power outage affected a polling location, the state Public Utility Commission (PUC) was notified and responded.

According to officials, an emergency preparedness coordinator with the PUC was able to arrange for a generator to be brought in and hooked up so that voting could continue at the site.

In addition to the polling place, the power outage also affected about 400 residences in the Dunbar and Leisenring area.

Nitowski said crews had to replace the sheared pole. Electricity was restored late Tuesday.

A spokeswoman for the Fayette County Election Bureau said everything was running smoothly at Divito Park early Tuesday evening.

The spokeswoman confirmed that a generator had been brought to the site.
