Before answering, the host allowed the pair had both voted the same way on the recent legislation pertaining to the border fence and funding.
Hillary Clinton
Supported Bush-backed immigration reform legislation, which would have increased funding and improved border security technology, improved enforcement of existing laws, and provided a legal path to citizenship for some illegal immigrants. Voted to authorize construction of a 700-mile fence along the U.S.-Mexican border. Watch Clinton speak about immigration

Their answers to a question about the continuing the border fence was unclear. It didn't seem as if either were willing to commit to a physical fence.
Thank goodness there will be a transcript.
In the meantime, read Michele Malkin liveblogging on the debate with her perspective on what was stated.

Another question concerned deporting illegal aliens who are found due to raids.
We couldn't understand either answer. Apparently they are against going into somebody's home to round up illegals, if they haven't committed any crime. OK, but they've already committed a crime by entering the country illegally.
Again, check out Malkin liveblogging

Final question on that issue was is there any downside to the united states becoming a bilingual nation?
Clinton... English should remain the common language, but she opposes making English the official language.
Obama... have that process of binding ourselves together in a common language, but everybody should learn a second language. To take advantage of opportunities, encourages learning English. Wants to make sure English speaking children learn a second language. One of failures of No child left behind is it is so narrowly focused on standardized tests, other areas have been neglected, and one of the areas neglected is foreign languages.
The next issue was Plagiarism. As we just did an entire day's worth of effort on that issue, we picked up our ears, just as Lost was about to come on...
Plagiarism
Obama was asked about the plagiarism charge... Deval is the national co-chairman of his national campaign... the notion he had plagiarized when Deval is his national co-chairman and gave him the line and suggested that he use it - is silly...
Clinton if your candidacy is going to be about words they should be your own words... if you're going to lift words... (Obama shakes his head and interjects something like he just explained) well you did... if you look at the you tube of these two speeches they are similar... lifting an entire passage isn't change you can believe in... it's like xerozing... (the audience was none too pleased and Clinton quickly brought in a couple of issues)
Clinton went on for several minutes but who was paying attention after the booing, and lost was coming on.
Obama immediately picked up on the issues Clinton mentioned and said 95 percent of our health care plans are the same... wants to make sure reduce costs for those who have health care plan already... a philosophical difference sen cl is to achieve is to force everybody to purchase it, his position is to reduce costs because many want it, but can't afford it.
He continued on but it's easier to just get their plans online as all either did was highlight.
Leaving to watch latest episode of Lost. Happy liveblog searching...

Hillary Clinton
Mandates individual health insurance coverage for all Americans. Offers federal subsidies for those who cannot afford it. Allows individuals to choose from among several private plans also offered to members of Congress, as well as a new public insurance plan modeled after Medicare. Requires insurance companies to offer coverage to anyone who applies, and bars insurance companies from charging higher premiums to those with pre-existing conditions. Requires large businesses to provide or help pay for employee coverage. Expands Medicaid and federal children's health care programs. Offers tax credits to limit health care premiums to a certain percentage a family's income. Cost estimated at $110 billion annually, to be paid for by eliminating the Bush tax cuts for those earning over $250,000, as well as by reducing waste and inefficiencies in the current system. Also limits the amount employers can exclude from taxes for health care benefits for those making over $250,000.

Barack Obama
Would create a national health insurance program for individuals who do not have employer-provided health care and who do not qualify for other existing federal programs. Allows individuals to choose between the new public insurance program or from among private insurance plans that meet certain coverage standards. Requires employers who do not provide health coverage for employees to pay into the national health insurance program. Does not mandate individual coverage for all Americans, but requires coverage for all children. Allows individuals below age 25 to be covered through their parents' plans. Cost estimated between $50 billion and $65 billion, to be paid for by eliminating Bush tax cuts for those earning over $250,000.
