Republican Hand Unnecessary for Democrat Healthcare Mandate

All this talk about bi-partisanship by President Barack Obama is nothing less than a smoke-screen.

What's to cover up?

The health care insurance mandate, that's what.

Independents do not want the government to mandate the purchase of anything for themselves, including health care insurance.

Few would dispute the need for portability, access to competitive pricing if necessary across state lines, but these are not to be considered by Democrats and they still want the mandate.

The mandate is nothing less than a backroom deal to some day slip in what the staunch Democrats really want - government run programs to replace the private sector health care eventually.

The Democrats have the majority in the House of Representatives and in the Senate.

So the Republicans in the Senate can filibuster for months. The Democrats can alter whatever rules they adopted to proceed and mount a vote of Democrats to pass whatever they want with a 51 Senate vote majority. They have 59 votes among Democrats.
