From the "Environmental News Network": "Science Is Solid on Climate Change, Congress Told." "The science is solid," says Louise Frechette, deputy secretary-general of the United Nations.
"The science is solid," says Sen. Dianne Feinstein.

"The science is really solid," says TV meteorologist Heidi Cullen. "The science is very solid."

And at that point, on "Larry King Live" last week, Richard Lindzen, professor of atmospheric science at MIT, remarked: "Heidi says the science is solid and I can't criticize her because she never says what science she's talking about."

Indeed. If the science is so solid, maybe they could drag it out to the Arctic for the poor polar bears to live on now that the ice is melting faster than a coed's heart at an Al Gore lecture.

Alas, the science isn't so solid

Report Has 'Smoking Gun' on Climate

WASHINGTON — Human-caused global warming is here, visible in the air, water and melting ice, and is destined to get much worse in the future, an authoritative global scientific report will warn next week.

"The smoking gun is definitely lying on the table as we speak," said top U.S. climate scientist Jerry Mahlman, who reviewed all 1,600 pages of the first segment of a giant four-part report. "The evidence ... is compelling."

Andrew Weaver, a Canadian climate scientist and study co-author, went even further: "This isn't a smoking gun; climate is a batallion of intergalactic smoking missiles."

The first phase of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is being released in Paris next week. This segment, written by more than 600 scientists and reviewed by another 600 experts and edited by bureaucrats from 154 countries, includes "a significantly expanded discussion of observation on the climate," said co-chair Susan Solomon, a senior scientist for the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. She and other scientists held a telephone briefing on the report Monday.

That report will feature an "explosion of new data" on observations of current global warming, Solomon said.

Solomon and others wouldn't go into specifics about what the report says. They said that the 12-page summary for policymakers will be edited in secret word-by-word by governments officials for several days next week and released to the public on Feb. 2. The rest of that first report from scientists will come out months later.

The full report will be issued in four phases over the year, as was the case with the last IPCC report, issued in 2001...

Is the Weather Channel getting political? The trio comment on Cullen and James Spann, who retorted in a statement which was subsequently picked up at the Drudge Report, and around the Internet.

On Fox 'n Friends, the Weather Channel's site is shown scrolling down some hundreds of postings regarding Cullen's comments. (visit it - obviously, there is not a concensus)

Well, well. Some “climate expert” on “The Weather Channel” wants to take away AMS certification from those of us who believe the recent “global warming” is a natural process. So much for “tolerance”, huh?

I have been in operational meteorology since 1978, and I know dozens and dozens of broadcast meteorologists all over the country. Our big job: look at a large volume of raw data and come up with a public weather forecast for the next seven days. I do not know of a single TV meteorologist who buys into the man-made global warming hype. I know there must be a few out there, but I can’t find them. Here are the basic facts you need to know...

...The notion of man`s complete responsibility for global warming has wrongly been adopted as universal truth here in our country. Remember, you know, just because Al Gore made a documentary doesn`t mean that all of the information he presented were irrefutable facts. Where were the SUVs when the dinosaurs were burned?

You know, it`s just like two doctors having a differing opinion on how to handle a treatment of a disease. There are numerous alternative views on why the Earth`s climate is what it is...


What happened? How did -- why is it, James, that you don`t believe that this is a manmade process?

JAMES SPANN, METEOROLOGIST: Well, Glenn, the earth`s climate has changed since the day God put it here. We have had these cyclical changes, and I believe that most of this is purely natural.

Quite frankly, to those of us in the operational community -- and we`re talking meteorologists that look at computer models and data in a simulated public forecast -- we don`t see much difference in the global warming in the last 10 to 15 years compared to the global warming we had from about 1910 to about 1945.

The 1930s were extremely cold across the globe. And I just don`t see a lot of difference in that.

And to us, the co2 emissions -- and let me say this. I think we should reduce this for better air quality. We`re going to run out of fossil fuels. We have many issues. And I`m all in agreement that we should reduce that.

But the idea that this is producing catastrophic manmade global warming just doesn`t make a lot of sense. It`s a pop gun compared to atomic bomb issues like volcanic dust in the stratosphere, the position of the sun, the temperature of the sun, the structure of the earth`s magnetic poles and ocean currents. That`s what makes the big changes...

In essence, Spann does not believe that human activity is contributing to global warming and contends that "billions of dollars of grant money is flowing into the pockets of those on the man-made global warming bandwagon." Spann received so much traffic on his site that it was temporarily shut down Thursday night, he said.

Then the FOX News Network called and asked him to appear on "Hannity & Colmes." And CNN Headline News, which wanted to book him for "Glenn Beck." Spann said he is scheduled to appear on both of those shows Monday night.
What pressed all of those hot buttons was Spann's response to comments made by the Weather Channel's Heidi Cullen on a blog she posted Dec. 21.

On that post, titled "Junk Controversy, Not Junk Science," Cullen supported the theory that increases in levels of gases, particularly carbon dioxide, in the atmosphere have led to global warming, and she challenged meteorologists who say it is the result of cyclical weather patterns...

You are stating as fact that the "primary" explanation of warming is CO2, but that's an opinion. Climate scientist Roger Pielke, Sr., calculates that CO2 has contributed about 1/4 of the warming. There is a real question regarding how much of the current warming is caused by the sun. I've seen in the literature estimates from 30-80%. That range itself demonstrates a lack of understanding of how much the sun contributes. Scafetta & West's paper in Geophys Res Letters (Sept 2006) implies to me that at least half of the warming is based on solar activity. There are other agents, too, including human transformation of the landscape. Consequently, i conclude that the primary explanation of warming is the sun. Although CO2 apparently contributes a considerable amount, it is not the primary driver.

This is 100% a political issue. For non-scientists in the reading audience, you must first understand how the scientific community operates. Research scientists must apply for and receive Government/Industry sponsored grants. This money ultimately comes from you, the taxpayer. hence do not be deceived scientific research is A BUSINESS, WHICH MUST SELL ITS IDEAS TO CONTINUE TO BE EMPLOYED. It doesnt matter if the issue is embrionic stem cell research or global warming. Ms Cullen has done you, the average American a great diservice for three reasons; DUH #1. Historically, we are still recovering from an ICE AGE
DUH#2. How many people know that under the polar ice caps are the remains of a pre-existing RAIN FOREST! (umm if thats true, and it IS, then the Earths natural state would BE to HAVE no ICE CAPS once we fully recover from the ICE AGE)
DUH#3. Ms Cullens crowd have to ignore, and insome cases CONCEAL, the "cooling period" that occurred 3 centuries ago. They also have to ignore the fact that temps in the 30's were higher than NOW.
But ok, she is a scientist, who hasn't done the most basic exploratory work that shows strong evidence , that not only is the warming and cooling periods we go through "Normal", but that eventually the earth should reach steady state and that state could mean we should actually have tropical rain forests where our ice caps presently sit. But discovering that wont get them global warming money...which is the real issue.

Now if only all of the scientists and meteorologists who object to Cullen's science would only publicly come out of the woodwork...

Amazing how a PhD in climatology can apparently ignore Lamb's 1976 2 volume tome on the History of Climate. Lamb provided conclusive proof of the medieval warming (and others) to significantly higher temperatures than present. In those years (850-1300 AD) there were no SUV's or fossil-fired industry. Thus the so called nexus between warming and carbon dioxide emissions is a bald faced lie. You need to go back to school and broaden your sources of information, Ma'am. Probably a different school would help. You might also check out Singer and Avery's recent book, "Unstoppable Global Warming - Every 1500 years".

Truth will eventually prevail over this hoax on the American people, the greatest since Orson Wells' 1938 "Invasion of the Martians". Dissent is not only democratic, in science it is an absolute must. Suppression of dissent in favor of consensus is dictatorial arrogance that reminds of militarism. You are joing the crowd of so-called peer reviewers and editors of science magazines who screen out dissent. Eventually the truth will win out. Don't get caught on the wrong side.

On another front, reaction continues to pour in from my column last week, which exposed the blatant move by The Weather Channel to advocate a liberal stand on global warming.

Environmental activists are furious that I mocked the failed prediction by climatologists and weather forecasters about the 2006 hurricane season. The global warming crowd promised a devastating year of powerful cyclones fueled by the warming of the earth. As it was, not one single hurricane struck the United States during the entire hurricane season.

I pointed out that this was just one example of why listening to people who have been proven wrong about forecasts time and again, and letting them dictate how we lived our lives, was insane.

I suggest everyone read this copy of the June 24, 1974, article in Time magazine where the junk science crowd in climatology beat their chests about the coming ice age. The article is literally titled, "Another Ice Age." Now, just 30 years (and no ice age) later, they say the earth is heating up and the ice caps are melting.

How many times will these people be proven wrong about global warming before brave politicians stand up and confront those who are trying to engage in social engineering?

This week Americans observed a national day of mourning (I'm speaking not of President Ford's funeral, but rather the day that Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi seized power in Congress).
Far-left political ideologies are being promulgated through ever-increasing mediums, and recently I noticed that a once-vaunted American television network, The Weather Channel, had succumbed to the cancerous spread of liberalism.

The Weather Channel debuted in 1982 and went on to earn a reputation as a well-known and respected cable network. The explosive success of the cable channel prompted the publication of a book marking the network's 20th anniversary. That success has been based on the fact that weather forecasts are sought after by a vast number of Americans on a near-daily basis.

What had been nice about The Weather Channel is that through most of its history it stayed clear of political propaganda and focused on delivering weather forecasts to the nation, supplemented with riveting live reports from the front lines of hurricanes, winter blizzards and springtime floods.

But no more. The Weather Channel is now engaged in a con job on the American people, attempting to scare the public that their actions are destroying the planet by creating a global warming crisis.

The move away from scientific forecasting of the weather to sensationalized leftist political advocacy is in part due to the influence of Wonya Lucas, executive vice president and general manager of The Weather Channel Networks...

Emotional weather forecasting?

The Weather Channel is launching a new website and broadband channel dedicated solely to global warming called "One Degree" and has a weekly program called "The Climate Code," devoted almost entirely to liberal advocacy on climate matters.

The network is running advertisements showcasing scared and confused Americans, including children and senior citizens, wondering about the coming apocalypse caused by global warming. (You can view the ad for yourself here.)

The chief martyr for the new "emotional" approach to broadcasting at The Weather Channel is Dr. Heidi Cullen, who serves as the network's cheerleader for global warming hysteria. Cullen's supposed expertise on climatology includes, among other things, earning a bachelor's degree in Near Eastern religions and history from Juniata College. One must indeed have to believe in the mystical to accept anything Ms. Cullen has to say about climatology.

Writing for the One Degree blog, Ms. Cullen recently threw a hissy fit that some meteorologists are openly questioning the conclusions drawn by the Greenpeace crowd about the nature, extent, causes and even existence of global warming.

Cullen's diatribe, titled "Junk Controversy Not Junk Science," called on the American Meteorological Society to start requiring all meteorologists to tow the line on liberal interpretation of global warming, or else lose the organization's certification.

George Orwell's 1984 couldn't have concocted a better form of thought control.

The global warming crowd, led by arrogant hustlers such as Heidi Cullen at The Weather Channel, has set up a no-lose situation for themselves.

Climatology is by definition the study of long-term climate trends, and it will indeed be many decades or longer before any definitive conclusions about even the existence of global warming – let alone its causes – can be determined to be true or false. This means that Cullen and her cohorts can't be held accountable for their erroneous beliefs.

Even still, we can see how foolish it is to allow people like Heidi Cullen to influence decision-makers to impose further restrictions and regulations on the actions of human beings. Global warming scaremongers jumped on the devastation of Hurricane Katrina and the busy 2005 Atlantic hurricane season and went on to predict that 2006 would be a potentially devastating year of tropical cyclones in the Atlantic Ocean.

As it was, not one single hurricane made landfall in the U.S...
